Revealed: Danny Rohl’s plan for Youssef Chermiti as Rangers fans fume

Youssef Chermiti will be given the chance to lead the line for Rangers as Danny Rohl offers him a way to turnaround his poor start at the Ibrox.

Since Chermiti joined Rangers from Everton over the summer, it has been an underwhelming start to life in Glasgow.

The Portuguese struggled to find any sort of consistency under the disgraced Russell Martin and now is praying for Rohl to work his magic to improve his goals output.

Sources told Football Insider that Rangers plan to keep Chermiti in January, giving the forward a golden opportunity to prove himself to the new manager.

Chermiti tipped for ‘regular’ role in Rangers side as supporters demand more

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the ex-Sporting CP striker will be entrusted with leading the line for the Gers, despite his terrible form.

Rangers fans were unimpressed with Chermiti in their League Cup defeat to Celtic and are running out of patience with the expensive summer signing.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over Rohl’s plans for the 21-year-old, I explained: “I think Danny Rohl will give him an opportunity now to stake a regular claim in the side.

“He’s in the side now and he’s played the last few games. He scored against Kilmarnock the other week [26 October] and then came under a bit of criticism following a few costly missed opportunities in that cup semi-final defeat to Celtic [2 November].

“Obviously, there’s a few Rangers fans who are up in arms with his performances and the price tag around his head brings that extra scrutiny on him.

“He’s got one goal, he’s the second most expensive signing ever [for Rangers]. So that brings it’s own pressure.

“There’s been a lot of pressure on him. Everton spent big money on him as well when they signed him from Sporting Lisbon. That move didn’t really work out and then he’s made that move to Ibrox as well.”

Rangers to calm pursuit of Calvin Ramsay with priorities elsewhere for January

The second half of the season will be a pivotal moment for many misfiring Teddy Bears stars as they bid to restore faith amongst the fanbase.

The poor start to the campaign will likely see the club make some necessary moves in January with sources telling Football Insider that Rangers will likely prioritise an attacker and a left-back.

Liverpool’s Calvin Ramsay had been linked with a move to Rangers, yet it now appears the Glaswegian outfit are happy with their current right-back selection.

For Rohl, quickly turning around results will be of upmost importance and, his level of success ahead of January, could dictate the financial backing he will receive.
