Revealed: Liverpool fringe player has ‘become the most wanted man in football’

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has become “the most wanted man in football” amid football’s changed economics, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder is available on a free transfer from the end of June and heads the list of stars exiting Anfield when the season finishes.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the already extensive interest in Lallana has intensified as a result of the cash crisis affecting clubs at all levels.

Top sides in Italy and Spain, as well as in the Premier League, were already keen on the England international.

Now, virtually every top-flight side in England is keen to snap up Lallana this summer, with the source claiming he “has become the most wanted man in football” even though he turns 32 next month.

Lallana had been due to leave Liverpool in June after not being offered an extension to his contract.

The season is now likely to go on in to July and August, and the likelihood is he will stay at Anfield until the season is complete.

He could then have his pick of clubs who are forced to slash their transfer budgets amid one of the multiple ramifications of the coronavirus spread.

Lallana has slipped down the pecking order at Liverpool in recent seasons, partly due to injury problems.

He has stayed fit in this campaign but has made just three Premier League starts among his 22 appearances in all competitions.

Lallana joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2014 and has made 178 appearances for the club, scoring 22 times and providing 22 assists.
