Revealed: Man City reach full agreement over Echeverri signing as medical completed

Man City have reached a full agreement with River Plate to sign sensation Claudio Echeverri, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that River Plate have accepted City’s bid for the 18-year-old and he has agreed personal terms with a medical set to be completed.

His move will be officially completed, and likely also announced, when the Argentina transfer window opens on 25 January.

Man City

The Premier League giants are expected to loan Echeverri back to his current club for the rest of the season before he moves to the Etihad as a permanent member of the first team.

Pep Guardiola’s side will pay an initial £12million for the attacking midfielder, but River Plate could secure a higher fee if performance-related add-ons are met.

Echeverri is regarded as one of the best players of his age after impressive displays at club level and with Argentina Under-17s.

The youngster was reportedly of interest at Barcelona but opted to join City after being reassured by Julain Alvarez’s progression in Manchester, who was similarly bought and loaned back to River Plate in 2022.

City could be in the frame to recruit another exciting young attacker, with Football Insider revealing (11 January) that they have scouts at “every Copenhagen game” this season to analyse teenage winger Roony Bardghji.

Man City

Man City sit second in the Premier League table after their late 3-2 win against Newcastle United on Saturday (13 January.

They next take on Tottenham away in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday 26 January.
