Revealed: Never-before-seen Liverpool player set to be involved v Atletico
Andy Lonergan is set to be in the Liverpool matchday 18 for next week’s Champions League showdown against Atletico Madrid, Football Insider understands.
The 36-year-old has not played for the Merseysiders since signing on a one-year deal last August following an injury to Alisson.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Alisson’s latest injury has opened the door for the journeyman veteran to be involved in the club’s biggest match of the season.
Jurgen Klopp revealed at his media conference earlier today that Alisson is out of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth as well as next Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 decider against Atletico Madrid.
The Brazil number one broke down with a hip injury sustained in training and will miss the two matches as well as potentially the Merseyside derby against Everton that follows.
That means Adrian will keep his place in goal after starting the midweek FA Cup defeat to Chelsea.

Lonergan was on the bench for the first time for Liverpool for that game, as number three Caoimhín Kelleher is also out injured.
It is a sudden and unexpected promotion for Lonergan, who has been used predominantly as a training-ground keeper helping to keep Alisson and company fine-tuned as well as developing the best of the youngsters at Melwood.
The Football League journeyman has spent the majority of the career in the Championship, including a lengthy spell at Preston North End, and has never played a Premier League match.
Alisson has been outstanding since signing for Liverpool from Roma in the summer of 2018.
He has conceded just 17 goals from 28 appearances in all competitions this season and only 51 strikes from 79 matches in total for the club.
In other Liverpool news, it can be REVEALED that the club are opening talks on a £50million deal including bonuses for defender.
