Revealed: Newcastle deal to sign Nicolo Barella set to collapse
Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is not keen on a potential move to Newcastle United this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (16 June) that the Magpies must smash their transfer record to meet Inter’s £70million asking price for Barella.
However, it is believed that Newcastle are only willing to pay £50million for the Italy international’s services.
However, that is not the only sticking point – with Barella himself keen to stay at Inter past the summer window.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that only one of the Premier League’s “big boys” could prise him away from San Siro.
The figures involved in any potential deal for Barella are believed to be beyond Newcastle – who could be forced to move on to alternative targets.
Football Insider revealed back in February that funds have been set aside for a box-office partner for star man Bruno Guimaraes.
Barella made 52 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign, notching nine goals and 10 assists.
He would also provide Newcastle with some much-needed European experience – having reached the Champions League final with Inter last term.
Barella, whose contract at San Siro is set to expire in June 2026, has racked up 234 total Serie A games during spells with Inter and Cagliari.

Newcastle will play Champions League football in the 2023-24 campaign for the first time in 20 years.
The Magpies have already wrapped up the first signing of their summer transfer window – with 18-year-old Yankuba Minteh joining on a long-term deal and immediately heading to Feyenoord on loan.
In other news, winger could now push for Newcastle move.
