Tottenham are convinced Christian Eriksen’s price tag will soar by £20million if he shines in the Champions League final next week, Football Insider understands.
Spurs face a battle to hang on to the Danish playmaker this summer even though chairman Daniel Levy has slapped a £140million valuation on him to keep him at White Hart Lane next season.
A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that Eriksen will be even more valuable if he delivers a standout performance against Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday week.
The club anticipate that could add a further £20million to his value, given the prestige and glamour of the biggest annual game in club football.
Eriksen’s future is up in the air because he is out of contract in the summer of 2020 and talks over an extension have been put on hold.
A club source has told Football Insider that Levy’s masterplan to keep Eriksen both next season and in the long term involves using the mammoth price tag as a tactic to bring him back to the negotiating table.
Levy regards Eriksen as in the same bracket as Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool last year for a Premier League-record fee of £142million including add-ons.
The Denmark international will be a key man for Tottenham against Liverpool as his side prepare for their first-ever Champions League final.
He has had another fine season for Spurs, scoring 10 goals and supplying 17 assists from 50 matches in all competitions.
In other Spurs news, it can be REVEALED that the club have secured a jawdropping £230million windfall.
