Revealed: What Man United’s Onana swoop means for marquee striker bid

A big-money move for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is likely to hurt the Man United pursuit of a marquee striker this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (1 July) that it will take offers in excess of £50million to land the 27-year-old this summer.

Man United are readying a bid for Onana after David De Gea was released upon the expiry of his contract on Friday (30 June).

Such an outlay is likely to eat into the funds available to bring a top striker to Old Trafford this summer.

Sources told Football Insider last week (28 June) that Man United are desperate to add an “established” number nine in order to close the gap to treble-winning rivals Man City.

Tottenham star Harry Kane was the Red Devils’ top target heading into the summer window, but Erik ten Hag’s side are now pessimistic about the possibility of landing him this year.

United chiefs are exploring moves alternative targets with the summer window heating up and the 2023-24 campaign on the horizon.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (27 June) that the Red Devils have made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt over a potential deal for striker Randal Kolo Muani.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the France international could cost in the region of £85million.

Manager Ten Hag has already confirmed he is planning to add another goalscorer to his side for the 2023-24 season.
