Rice and Butland react as Harry Kane sends message to India icon Virat Kohli

Harry Kane has paid tribute to Virat Kohli after the Indian cricket legend achieved another career feat, prompting a reaction from the likes of Declan Rice and Jack Butland.

Both players are among the biggest names currently competing in their respective sports, and both have enjoyed some big moments recently.

Last month, Kane helped Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga title, earning the first major honour of his career in the process.

Now, Kohli has also played a part in putting an end to another trophy drought, something which has not gone unnoticed by the England captain.

Harry Kane has had a season to remember

Harry Kane posts Virat Kohli throwback

On Tuesday (4 June), Kohli helped his Royal Challengers Bengaluru side to victory over the Punjab Kings in the final of this year’s Indian Premier League.

The Twenty20 tournament is the best supported and richest in the world of cricket, and that victory represented the first time RCB have won the title.

Kohli himself scored 43 from 35 balls during the final to set his side on their way to victory, and Kane was keen to pay tribute to that.

Taking to Instagram following that win for RCB, the Bayern Munich striker posted a historic picture of himself swapping shirts with Kohli during his time at Spurs.

He then accompanied it with the caption: “One from the archives to say a massive congrats to Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on a first IPL title!! Unreal achievement”.

In response, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland, as well as Kohli himself, were among those to like the post.

Bayern Munich striker facing big summer call

Football Insider Verdict

Kohli recently made a major decision on his future by retiring from Test cricket, after scoring over 9,000 runs in the format for India.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility that Kane himself will also soon have to make a call on what he does next with the transfer window.

Having ended his long wait for a trophy, there are other things the striker may now want to do in his career.

Some have claimed Kane could return to England with Liverpool as he chases the Premier League goalscoring record, a feat that would surely tempt him.

Others have suggested that the ex-Tottenham star could be signed by Arsenal as an alternative to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Many clubs would also no doubt jump at the chance to sign the England captain should the opportunity emerge, so his future could be one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.
