Rice, Maddison react to heartfelt message from Henderson ahead of Brentford move
Declan Rice and James Maddison reacted to a heartfelt farewell message from Jordan Henderson ahead of his prospective Brentford move.
The England international left Liverpool in the summer of 2023, joining a plethora of players making the move from Europe to the Saudi Pro League.
Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq to play under former teammate Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Pro League, but after just five months in the Middle East, the 35-year-old’s contract was terminated.
This prompted a return to Europe and a move to Ajax to join the Dutch giants. His time in the Netherlands was tumultuous as the midfielder clashed with journalists when he was rumoured to be on the move last January.
However, despite making headlines for all the wrong reasons, Henderson impressed during his time at the Johan Cruyff Arena as the club bounced back from a fifth-placed finish in the 2023/24 season to finish second last term.

Jordan Henderson shares touching message after Ajax exit
Following the culmination of his Ajax contract, Henderson shared a message on Instagram wishing his former club well.
The England midfielder talked about the “immense pride” he felt to play for the club, and signed off by saying the side would “always hold a special place” in his family’s hearts.
The post was liked by Three Lions teammates Rice and Maddison, showing support for the midfielder.
Jordan Henderson set to join Brentford
Football Insider Verdict
The midfielder’s departure from Ajax and return to England this summer comes as no surprise.
But what is a bit of a shock is the 35-year-old’s landing spot. Henderson was widely expected to re-join Sunderland after his boyhood side claimed promotion via the playoffs.
The England international was in attendance during the final win against Sheffield United and the Black Cats are in the market for more experienced players to add to Regis Le Bris’ squad.
However, Henderson will instead join up with Brentford and their new boss, Keith Andrews.
The move is a shrewd one for the London side. After losing several senior figures, notably Thomas Frank and captain Christian Norgaard, the former Liverpool man will bring experience and defensive solidity to their midfield.
