Richard Keys delivers instant Twitter verdict after massive reported Rangers appointment

Richard Keys has congratulated Steven Gerrard after the Liverpool legend reportedly agreed a deal to take over at Ibrox from June.

According to The Daily Star, the 37-year-old will leave his post at Anfield where he has been coaching the Reds U18s side.

It’s news which is yet to be confirmed by the club but regardless, the former Sky Sports pundit took to Twitter to send his well-wishes to the ex-midfield general and wrote: “Congrats to Stevie G. Delighted. Too many of today’s x-pro’s duck the challenge. Top man.”

Only earlier on Tuesday, Rangers announced that Graeme Murty had left his post following on from the weekend’s catastrophic defeat against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership to hand Brendan Rodgers’ side their seventh title on the trot.

Gerrard will take over at the helm on a three-year deal with Gary McAllister as his number two.

Keys is spot on. There are so many players who turn their backs on management, instead preferring an easier life as a pundit but Gerrard has put himself out there in one of the biggest jobs in football by becoming the boss at Ibrox. The hard work starts now though as Stevie G certainly has his work cut out with the gap between the Light Blues and Celtic looking as big as ever based on the weekend’s capitulation at Celtic Park. It can only get better for the Gers though, and they will be hoping that the Liverpool icon brings everything he has got to help turn his tenure into a success.
