Keys delivers astonishing attack on Benitez after Newcastle horror run
Richard Keys in his latest blog post has sensationally blamed Rafa Benitez for Newcastle’s shortcomings this season and defended Mike Ashley in the process.
In his blog post on Tuesday 19 December called “The Brit pack”, the former Sky Sports man had no kind words for Benitez as he slammed the manager’s request for money to fix the Magpies problems.
“Now the Toon languish in the bottom three – having taken just one point from 27. I’ll say that again – one point from 27,” said Keys.
“Benitez wants more money to correct the problem, of course he does.”
Keys went on to list several managers who would also like transfer funds including Alan Pardew, Paul Clement, Roy Hogdson and every other manager involved in the relegation battle.
“No, I’m sorry Rafa, it’s a different game at the other end of the table isn’t it?” Keys sarcastically asked.
“The run Newcastle are on is NOTHING to do with Mike Ashley and EVERYTHING to do with what’s happening ON the pitch – or rather isn’t happening on the pitch, no Rafa, this one is down to you.”
The former Sky Sports man continued comparing Benitez to other managers such as Sean Dyche who he names an example of someone who could achieve success without spending.
Newcastle United sit 18th, one point adrift of safety, after going on a winless run of nine games in the Premier League.
The Magpies face an important set of games ahead of the January transfer window as they have to face fellow strugglers West Ham, Brighton and Stoke City.
Though Newcastle United also have to face undefeated Manchester City before the end of 2017 at St James Park.
The Magpies play West Ham on Saturday at the London side, a side who they have beaten in their last two meetings.
In other Newcastle United news, the Magpies are second favourites to seal a January swoop for this lightning quick Premier League forward.
