'Finally a transfer rumour that doesn’t make us sad' - Tottenham fans over the moon at playmaker speculation

By Harry Sykes

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez this summer – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.

The Telegraph claim Spurs have joined the race to sign the 2016 PFA player of the year this summer after making an enquiry for him in the January window.

It is said that wide playmaker Mahrez, 26, expects to be allowed to leave Leicester in the forthcoming window after striking an agreement with the club last summer that he could do so.

The Premier League champions value the Algeria international at over £30million as a result of his matchwinning exploits over the last two seasons.

Tottenham fans on social media were mostly enthused by the interest in the gifted player who was so key to Leicester’s title triumph last season.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Mahrez has not been as influential for Leicester this season as he was in 2015-16, when he scored 17 league goals and provided 10 assists en route to their title triumph.

But he has still scored 10 goals and supplied seven assists in 45 matches in all competitions, with four of his goals coming in the Champions League.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club’s supporters have gone berserk after one of the team’s best players dropped a massive hint on social media that he is quitting within weeks.
