Fans of rival clubs have taken to social media to back Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez in his bid to be named manager of the year after being named as one of the six nominees.

The Spanish boss, who has been on Tyneside since arriving back in 2016, has been put forward alongside Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Burnley’s Sean Dyche, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Brighton’s Chris Hughton and Crystal Palace’s Roy Hodgson, as confirmed on the Premier League’s official Twitter account.

The six managers have all enjoyed relative success with their sides, Guardiola picking up the Premier League title in what could be a record breaking season, Dyche getting the Clarets on the verge of European qualification and Benitez taking his newly promoted Newcastle to a possible top 10 finish, despite a lack of spending in the transfer window.

With opinions flying around on Twitter, a lot of rival fans were left backing the Magpies’ boss for the award, many insisting the job he has done on a limited budget makes him worthy of the win.

Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:

Newcastle currently sit 10th in the table with three games to play, a point ahead of Brighton, who have played a game more, and three points behind Leicester City.
