Chelsea hope to use club legend Didier Drogba to their advantage in their bid to land Romelu Lukaku from Everton, according to a report.
The Sun claim that Drogba is set to discuss a potential return to Stamford Bridge with Lukaku, after the 23-year-old striker reportedly made a big decision on his Everton future.
It has been reported that Lukaku declined an offer of a new deal with the club, sparking further rumours that he is set to quit the Merseyside club in the summer in pursuit of Champions League football.
Chelsea are confident that they can win the race for his signature, and are believed to be prepared to use Drogba, a friend and former teammate of Lukaku, as a catalyst in negotiations.
Drogba is still without a club following his departure from MLS outfit Montreal Impact in 2016, but has remained close to Chelsea since.
The Premier League giants sold Lukaku to Everton three years ago, after the Belgian striker failed to fill the shoes of Drogba as the club’s main goalscorer.
However, they are now prepared to roll the back the years and entice Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge, after a superb run of goalscoring form for Everton.
Lukaku has scored 21 goals from just 28 Premier League appearances this season, including nine goals in only his last six matches.
He has now scored 83 goals for the club from 157 appearances in all competitions.
