Riyad Mahrez reacts to Celtic star Kasper Schmeichel’s Leicester post

Kasper Schmeichel received the attention of current and former teammates after sharing a throwback Leicester City memory on social media.

The Dane has experienced an incredible career across England, France, Belgium, and Scotland, becoming most well-known for his time with the Foxes, where he made 479 appearances over 11 years.

Moves to Nice and Anderlecht did not fully work out before likely finding the club he retires at, Celtic, and winning yet another league trophy at the age of 38.

Brendan Rodgers, who will be pushing for more at Celtic, has openly serenaded the veteran, having missed just two matches across all competitions until suffering a shoulder injury in March.

With the goalkeeper off the field, he has clearly been reminiscing about previous experiences, sharing a Leicester City memory on social media following his lengthy spell at the King Power Stadium.

Taking to Instagram (7 May), Schmeichel wrote: “Nine years ago today! What a time to be alive,” with praise and trophy emojis alongside an image of himself with the Premier League trophy.

As well as gaining likes from Celtic trio, Greg Taylor, Arne Engels, and Daizen Maeda, who has been tipped to leave Celtic this summer, former teammate Riyad Mahrez also liked the post.

The 38-year-old has only made 46 appearances since making the move to Celtic Park, but he has quickly become a much-loved figure amongst the fanbase, much like he was at Leicester.

Football Insider verdict

While the Hoops have been fighting for league titles this season, it has been a completely different campaign for the Foxes, who have been relegated from the Premier League in awful fashion.

Jamie Vardy has already confirmed his decision to leave Leicester, which is just another blow ahead of the 2025/26 campaign in the Championship.

Ruud van Nistelrooy might not even be in charge of Leicester once the 2025/26 campaign kicks off, with the legendary Man United figure winning just four of 24 matches since taking over.

One of the only positives from the season came in the form of Mads Hermansen, who has been the most solid goalkeeper at the King Power since Schmeichel’s departure in 2022.

While the 24-year-old only kept 1 clean sheet in 27 Premier League matches, he denied Cole Palmer from the penalty spot, a moment which saw interest in the goalkeeper rise significantly.
