Rob Elliot makes surprise claim about Newcastle after win v Crystal Palace

Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has revealed that fans are yet to see the best of their side but insists they must remain patient.
The north east side have launched themselves into sixth place in the Premier League table after victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, Mikel Merino’s late header, his first goal for the club, securing the three points against the Eagles.
The win was Newcastle’s fourth of the season, which has seen them lose just three matches since their return to the top flight, having suffered relegation two seasons ago.
However Elliot has surprisingly claimed that despite their bright start there is more to see from the Magpies – if fans can wait – and that the side’s current aim is to ensure they retain their place in the top flight for next season.
He told the club’s official website: “There is a lot more to come, but with that comes patience – you can’t expect perfection.

“As long as we keep playing how we are – if we can stay at the right end of the table – that’s the most important thing.
“The objective, before anything else, is to stay up, and once we get to that marker, hopefully we can push on from there.
“We work hard in training – sometimes it isn’t always fun, but the thing is, when you win on a Saturday, you know that it’s all worth it. We can’t get cocky and think we can just turn up and win.”
Elliot is one of the club’s longest serving players, sitting behind only academy graduate Paul Dummett, having joined the club from Charlton back in 2011.
He has made 61 appearances for the club in his six years on Tyneside, and has firmly established himself as the number one goalkeeper at the club ahead of Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman, having started every one of their league games this season.
