Robbie Fowler: This is 100% what Gerrard will be thinking after accepting Rangers job

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler insists Steven Gerrard will be thinking he can manage Rangers “better than anyone else” as he prepares to take his first step into senior management with the Ibrox giants.

Gerrard was confirmed as the next Gers boss on Friday after agreeing a four-year deal with the Light Blues and Fowler rejected suggestions Gerrard has signed up for an “impossible job.”

The iconic Liverpool striker also thinks that Gerrard will get a honeymoon period to settle in at Ibrox thank to their bitter rivals Celtic being so far ahead in the Scottish Premiership.

“I can guarantee 100 per cent that’s what he’s thinking inside now: ‘I can do this better than anyone else,'” Fowler said, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“Now he’s got the chance and I think it’s magnificent for him. Rangers is a massive club, and my message for all those who say it’s an impossible job, is, well, completely wrong.

“He’ll have a honeymoon period anyway, because they are so far behind Celtic at the moment no one in their right mind will be thinking he can go in with a magic wand and turn it around straight away… except him maybe!”

Gerrard will need to have that sort of determination if he is going to be a success in Glasgow and thinking he is the best possible man for the job is a decent place to start. Getting someone in who at least has the belief that they can turn things around at Ibrox is a big part of what has been wrong at Ibrox in recent years. Any time you ever heard Mark Warburton or Pedro Caixinha speak about Celtic there was almost a feeling of inferiority being given off by the former bosses. With only a few weeks until Gerrard gets underway as Gers manager, the Liverpool icon needs to make sure that he has fully prepared to take the reins at Ibrox and doesn’t make the same mistakes that the likes of Caixinha, Warburton and Paul le Guen all made during their stints in the Gers hotseat.

In other Rangers news, both the Gers and Celtic are in the running to sign this £100,000-a-week Premier League midfielder who will be available in the summer.
