Robbie Savage: These are the two players Liverpool must sign in January

By Alex Stevens

Robbie Savage has urged Liverpool to buy a new goalkeeper and centre-back in the January transfer window.

The BBC pundit is convinced that the Merseysiders need a more reliable No1 than Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet and manager Jurgen Klopp should take decisive action next month.

Savage also believes that Liverpool would benefit from a new defensive leader in the wake of their 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday.

The former midfielder urged Klopp to sign Manchester City keeper Joe Hart, who is on a season-long loan to Torino, and Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

However, Savage questioned whether City would be willing to sell Hart to a direct title rival in Liverpool.

Karius had a poor game on Sunday as Liverpool let slip a 3-1 lead against Bournemouth to lose 4-3 in a sensational clash at the Vitality Stadium.

The summer signing from Mainz, who has usurped Mignolet as the Anfield No1 this season, made a horrible blunder in added time when he spilled a relatively tame long-ranger to allow Nathan Ake to steal in and score the winning goal in a remarkable match.

The German goalkeeper also failed to keep out strikes from Calum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Simon Cook as Liverpool’s defence went into meltdown.

It means that Klopp’s side wasted a glorious opportunity to pull within a point of leaders Chelsea, who beat Manchester City 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Liverpool end the weekend in third position in the Premier League, four points adrift of Chelsea and one behind second-placed Arsenal.
