Roberts tipped for 'massive' Leeds role after 'amazing' development - Whelan
Tyler Roberts’ emergence as a striking option for Leeds United is “massive”, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 22-year-old can “thrive” after contributing two “amazing” performances in the past week.
Roberts grabbed his first Leeds United goal this season as the Yorkshire side secured a last-gasp 2-2 home draw against Brentford on Sunday (5 December).
As per LUFCDATA on Twitter (5 December), the Welshman registered three shots on target, five ball recoveries, and won seven duels in addition to his first-half strike.
Whelan insisted Roberts has matched his expectations after calling on him to perform last week.
“It’s massive to have that other option upfront,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“The fact that he has that goal under his belt now has got his tail up, we know that strikers thrive on goals and that confidence it brings.
“He worked really hard last week against Crystal Palace without getting any joy.
“We’ve had a lot to say about Roberts and what we expect from him – but he’s proved his worth in these last two games and he’s contributing the kind of qualities this side needs, he’s been amazing.
“He’s working hard, bringing others into play – getting assists but more importantly now, goals. He now needs to keep putting that all together and bringing something to the table in that position.
“What a great finish it was as well. It was difficult, but he got it absolutely perfect. Everyone is overjoyed for him, it was exactly what he needed.”
Roberts has netted just two league goals since Leeds United returned to the Premier League last season.
The 19-cap Wales international has made three starts this term.
