Robinson cites Van Dijk as Tottenham plot swoop for 'great' player
Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard would be a “great” signing for Tottenham, according to Paul Robinson.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, pointed to Virgil van Dijk’s success at Liverpool when assessing a potential move for the 28-year-old.
According to The Mirror, Jose Mourinho is considering a move for Vestergaard in the next transfer window.
Football Insider understands Spurs will prioritise defensive reinforcements in summer with the club willing to listen to offers for Davinson Sanchez.
Vestergaard will have just 12 months left on his contract at St. Mary’s come July and could be available for a knockdown fee.
When asked by Football Insider if the Denmark international would be a welcome addition at Spurs, Robinson said: “I think Vestergaard is a good player.

“He could be a great addition and it is clearly an area that Spurs are looking in.
“We have seen a lot of Southampton players recruited successfully over recent years, like Virgil van Dijk and Hojbjerg. Southampton is a very successful breeding ground for a lot talented exports.
“If Mourinho likes him I would not be surprised if they make a move because it is a position they will be looking at ahead of the summer window.”
Vestergaard has made 21 Premier League starts for Southampton this season and score three goals.
He has won 62 per cent of his duels and completed 87 per cent of his passes in that time. (Wyscout)
