Rodgers confirms early Celtic team news v St Johnstone, 25-year-old plays in raft of changes - report
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he will ring the changes for Sunday’s Premiership game against St Johnstone on Sunday.
He admitted he would switch things up after his side put in a heroic effort to beat Zenit 1-0 in the Europa League on Sunday.
Rodgers was adamant to point out that he wasn’t taking the game lightly but that it would be necessary to make changes – with one eye on Thursday’s return leg in Russia.
Tom Rogic, 25, is returning from injury and, according to the Daily Record, is set to make his first Premiership appearance since the beginning of December.
And he confirmed he would be making other changes to his line-up too, with a potential recall for Scott Sinclair who was a surprise omission against Zenit on Thursday.
“Thursday is a vital game, but so is Sunday and I have got players who are champing at the bit to play,” Rodgers said.
“We will be hungry to get the three points and it will be a stuffy game because St Johnstone are organised and make it difficult for you.
“Some of the boys will come in because others played on Thursday and we are now starting to get one or two back to fitness, the likes of Patrick [Roberts] and Tom [Rogic].“
“In in a few weeks’ time, that will give us a real strength and depth and quality going forward for the rest of the season.”
Celtic are eight points clear at the top of the Premiership table, with Aberdeen in second and Rangers a further three points back.
Three points against St Johnstone and progression against Zenit in the second leg next week would round off one of the best weeks in Rodgers’ highly successful career at Celtic.
