Rodgers delivers injury update on Brown after Celtic win v Anderlecht

By Danny Wright

Brendan Rodgers has eased concerns about Scott Brown after he hobbled off the pitch in Celtic’s 3-0 hammering of Anderlecht in Belgium on Wednesday night.

The Hoops secured a massive three points in their Champions League group thanks to goals from Leigh Griffiths, Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair, but amid all the joy, there were concerns over Brown, 32, who had to be taken off the pitch in the 70th minute with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Nir Bitton came on to replace the stricken Bhoys captain for the final phases of the game, but Rodgers has now revealed that his substitution was only precautionary and that he will know more by Friday.

“He [Brown] said when he came off that he just felt something tight and didn’t want to aggravate it,” said Rodgers in his post match interview on Wednesday night, as quoted on Celtic’s official Twitter account.

“So I will not know for the next 24-48 hours to what that’s at.”

Brown said after the game that he isn’t too sure about the extent of his injury is, but allayed concerns by making it clear that there was nothing serious.

It would no doubt be a massive blow for Celtic to be without Brown for any kind of period after playing such a vital role in their early games this season.

He has made 16 appearances across all competitions this term in the heart of the Bhoys midfield alongside a host of different team mates.

Brown will now be aiming to fit to play when his old side Hibernian travel to Parkhead on Saturday.
