Rodgers makes new deal for 25-year-old midfielder a Celtic priority - report
By Derek Smithson
Brendan Rodgers will prioritise securing the future of Celtic ace Stuart Armstrong in the summer, according to a report.
The Herald claim that the Bhoys want to tie the 25-year-old down to a long-term deal after having a major role in the club’s domestic treble.
It is understood that the likes of Brighton, Burnley and Everton have been interested in securing the services of the goalscoring midfielder, whose contract is set to expire next summer.
Rodgers has explained that he delayed discussions with Armstrong about his future until the end of the season and is confident of securing a deal.
“I’m sure it will get tied up,” he said. “We put it off about ten days ago because I didn’t want it to effect the preparation for this game.

“But hopefully that can be done afterwards. Stuart in the second half really showed his power, speed and quality and running ability.”
Armstrong has been a star performer this season and was nominated for PFA Player of the Year, but was beaten by teammate Scott Sinclair to the accolade.
However, the central midfielder has been vitals to Rodgers’ set-up and dominated the centre of the park.
He has been used as a wide man during much of his career, but has thrived since the switch to the middle.
Armstrong made 47 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 17 goals and supplying seven assists in return.
The midfielder’s form also saw him earn an international call-up to Gordon Strachan’s squad this season and make his first senior appearance for Scotland.
Football Insider verdict:
Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair have rightfully received a lot plaudits for their roles in the Celtic team this season, but Armstrong has been another star man. The midfielder has been reborn under the guidance of Rodgers and has stepped up to become a senior player. He has provided a brilliant amount of goals from midfield and eased the load on the attackers, while also being recognised for his country. Armstrong, 25, looks like he is only going to improve and a long-term contract would be a brilliant move by the Scottish champions.
