Manager Brendan Rodgers has told that it is not the right time to promote youth team star Jack Aitchison to the Celtic first team ahead of their second leg Champions League qualifying clash against Rosenborg.

The Hoops are currently preparing to travel to Norway on Wednesday which will see them face Rosenborg at the Lerkendal Stadion.

The first leg at Parkhead was heavily impacted to injuries to star forward duo Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele and the Hoops were held to a 0-0 draw at home.

Now, it is not yet determined whether Griffiths will be ready for the second-leg, but when when asked if Rodgers would promote Aitchison up to the first team the Northern Irishman told, as quoted by the official Celtic Twitter account that the 17-year-old is not ready.

Aitchison is considered a bright prospect in the Celtic youth ranks and the young forward made a scoring debut for the club back in May 2016, coming on as a substitute in a 7-0 win over Motherwell.

The occasion saw him become the youngest player to ever represent Celtic at just 16 years and 71 days and that in turn made him the youngest ever player to score a competitive goal for the Hoops.

However, he has since been restricted to just two further appearances with his last coming in a 1-1 draw against Partick and it looks like he may have to wait longer before adding to his total.
