Romelu Lukaku may be set for 'big wage cut' as new Chelsea details emerge - Agbonlahor
Romelu Lukaku may take a “big wage cut” to help engineer his return to Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed Lukaku’s return to Stamford Bridge last summer (2021) could go down as the “biggest flop in Premier League history”.
The Athletic reported on Tuesday (21 June) that Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle to loan the 29-year-old back to Inter Milan for the 2022-23 season.
It is claimed the Serie A giants will pay a loan fee of €8million (£6.8million) plus add-ons and there is a full agreement on salary and bonuses.
There is no obligation or option for the deal to be made permanent and Lukaku is still under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2026.
Asked whether the striker has a long-term future in west London, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “That ship has sailed now.

“Chelsea fans will not forgive him for that interview and when you add on his poor form afterwards I feel they will be done with him.
“That transfer could go down as the biggest flop in Premier League history for the amount of money and the return in goals. It could be down as one of the big ones.
“It’s a shame for Lukaku because I like him, I like him as a player. He’s just not seen himself this season.
“I’m sure he’ll take a big wage cut just to get back to Inter Milan where he was happy.”
