Ronald Koeman: This is what Lukaku needs to stay at Everton
By Danny Wright
Ronald Koeman believes that delivering Champions League football will help convince star striker Romelu Lukaku to stay at Everton.
Talking to Sky Sports, the Toffees boss said that he has ambitions to take his club to the Champions League as that is where his players want to be playing.
The future of the 23-year-old is widely spoken about within the media and Koeman has hinted that top European football could be what he needs.
Lukaku was linked by the Mirror to a return to Chelsea after Diego Costa was linked with a move to China in January.
“The best we can do as Everton is show to everybody that we are growing as a club which will fight to win titles because every player, every manager has ambitions in football, I think that’s normal,” Koeman said to Sky Sports when he was asked about the striker’s future.

“As Everton, we need to show all the players that we are growing and we will finally win titles but I understand players wanting to play in the Champions League, it’s a normal ambition and we will see what will happen with Romelu [Lukaku] and other players.”
The Belgian international has scored 18 goals this season for Everton in all competitions, taking his tally with the club to 79 in 154 games.
In his spell at Chelsea, Lukaku failed to score a goal in 15 appearances before successful loan moves to West Bromwich Albion and Everton took the striker to a new level.
He has been a key part of the Everton side this season as they currently sit seventh in the Premier League going into their next game against Tottenham on White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Lukaku is currently joint top of the Premier League goalscoring charts (17) level with Spurs’ Harry Kane and Alexis Sanchez.
