Ronald Koeman sends Twitter message to Everton fans after crushing Man City

By Will Butcher

Ronald Koeman has heaped praise on Everton’s fans after they played a key part in the Toffees’ 4-0 triumph over Manchester City on Sunday.

The Merseyside giants were in fantastic form against Pep Guardiola’s struggling City, with Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman all scoring.

Posting on his personal Twitter account after the match, Koeman described the win as the “perfect afternoon” and lauded Toffees fans for their instrumental part in the win.

The Toffees took the lead largely thanks to 18-year-old midfielder Davies’ vision, as he split the City defence to find Ross Barkley, who fed Lukaku to break the deadlock.

Despite City’s domination of possession, the Toffees utilised the counter attack to full effect. Kevin Mirallas doubled the lead just after the restart with a neat strike past Claudio Bravo.

The Goodison Park faithful roared their team on as City looked to get back into the match, but academy product Davies rounded off a wonderful performance to chip Bravo and grab the Toffees’ third.

New £11million signing Lookman then completed Koeman’s “perfect” day with an explosive finish from close range to hand Pep Guardiola his biggest league defeat as a manager.

The win sees Koeman and his side move to within seven points of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United who sit in sixth place, closing the gap by two points.
