Everton attacking midfielder Ross Barkley has shared that January signing Morgan Schneiderlin has given the Toffees the quality needed to push up the table.
The Merseyside giants made just two senior signings in the winter window with Schneiderlin and Ademola Lookman joining from both Manchester United and Charlton respectively.
The Blues paid out a massive £20million for the Frenchman in the winter window after Ronald Koeman previously worked with him at Southampton and Barkley believes he has justified the price-tag.
“Our midfield options are probably the best since I’ve been at the club,” said Barkley to the Liverpool Echo.
“Everyone is an international player.
“Gaz Barry is a veteran who passes on all his knowledge to the younger lads. He understands different types of games we are going into and how we have to approach them differently. He helps out with that.
“We’ve also got the likes of Gana, who digs in with Morgan looking for those forward passes. Then there’s the mixture of me, Tom (Davies) and Jamesy (McCarthy). We’ve got good options.
“Morgan’s settled in really well and seems as though he’s been here for a long time with the way he gets on with all the lads. You can see in training that he’s helped us kick on a bit with his extra bit of quality.
“It’s class that Mo (Besic) is coming back now, too. All the lads were all talking about it early on (in the Dubai training camp). He’s put in all the hard work over the season and that’s all paying off for him now.”
Schneiderlin, 27, was a big star of the Southampton side under Koeman, tempting Manchester United into splashing out £27million for him.
However, under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho he struggled to make a name for himself at the famous club and he will now be looking to rediscover his form at Everton with the 2018 World Cup coming up in a years time.
The combative midfielder has featured in each of the Toffees’ five Premier League matches since making the switch to Merseyside and he has even started his sides last three.
Everton are currently unbeaten in the league with Schneiderlin in their team with three wins and two draws and they will be keen to continue that run with bottom of the league Sunderland coming up next on Saturday.
In other Everton news, a deal has been agreed for this Toffees midfielder in the summer.
