Ruben Amorim can sign his ‘best midfielder by a country mile’ in January, he wants to play with Casemiro

Ruben Amorim might already have one eye on the January transfer window despite Man United’s recent upturn in form.

Man United beat Brighton 4-2 to move up to sixth in the Premier League table, only behind their rivals Man City on goal difference, and are now preparing to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 1 November.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris was snubbed from the Premier League’s Manager of the Month nominees, but after three straight wins in October, Amorim is a leading contender for the award.

That is not to say that the Red Devils cannot continue to improve their current squad, and the midfield area is one of concern for the manager ahead of the transfer window reopening.

Ruben Amorim is aiming for Andrey Santos signing

Football Insider understands that Man United want to sign a new midfielder, with it becoming a priority for the manager, and one big name is already on the wishlist despite it being October.

Now, Man United are plotting a move for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos, Football Insider understands, who remains down the pecking order due to Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

It would be incredibly difficult to sweeten the deal enough for Enzo Maresca to agree to let the young Brazilian leave, but based on previous interviews, the player himself might push for the move.

While he has made 15 appearances across all competitions this season, only two of them have been Premier League starts, and there is a belief that he would slide straight into United’s lineup.

Chelsea star wants to play alongside Casemiro

Troy Deeney, speaking on The Football Exchange, believes that Santos would be United’s “best midfielder by a country mile,” urging Amorim to make the call ahead of the next transfer market.

The young gem’s father openly spoke about his admiration for Brazilian star Casemiro in 2023 [The Independent], saying: “He targets Casemiro a lot. It’s part of his position. Possibly, they can play together for a few minutes there.”

Casemiro is unlikely to be around next season, so if Santos has a dream of playing alongside the former Real Madrid star, he will have to make the difficult decision to leave Stamford Bridge in January.

The Blues are facing much more success across all competitions at this point in time, but very little can stop footballers from achieving their dreams at the highest level.
