Le Tissier: This is what I really think of Ruben Amorim and when Man United will sack him

Man United have shown a willingness to back Ruben Amorim this summer after years of managerial upheaval.

That is the view of former Southampton and England star Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that he expects the Red Devils to “improve quite a lot” under the Portuguese manager.

Amorim joined Man United in November 2024, taking the vacant position after Erik ten Hag was relieved of his duties.

The former Sporting CP boss walked into a mess. Fans were, and remain unhappy at the ownership and the players’ performances were below the standards expected of the 20-time champions of England.

Amorim was quick to instil change. The first order of business was to change tactically, switching to a 3-4-2-1 system whilst implementing a strict style of leadership that saw the likes of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho ousted for their failure to comply.

No European football a boost for Ruben Amorim

And whilst results did not improve, and United sank to a 15th-placed finish, Premier League legend Le Tissier does not think that Amorim should be written off just yet.

When asked whether he expects the Portuguese manager to survive until the winter transfer window, the Premier League legend told Football Insider: “Yeah, do you know what, I think he will.

“I think that for so long, they’ve kind of chopped and changed the managers. I’ve got a feeling they’ll remain fairly patient with Amorim.

“If they are not playing in Europe and having a reasonable campaign in the Premier League and are challenging for the European places, then I think they’ll stick with him.

“They’ve backed him in the transfer market and I think the players that he has bought will make a difference.

“I like Cunha, I think he’s got a lot to offer Man United. Mbeumo had a very good season last year, talented boy; there’s no reason why they shouldn’t improve quite a lot this season.”

Ruben Amorim makes Bruno Fernandes decision

Whilst the incomings will undoubtedly have a positive effect on the Red Devils’ performances, they would not be enough to make up for the loss of their captain this summer.

Bruno Fernandes has been linked with Al-Nassr and other Saudi Arabian clubs, Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider exclusively.

Despite rejecting a move to the Middle East earlier this summer, clubs from the Saudi Pro League retain an interest in the Portugal international.

However, O’Rourke told Football Insider that Amorim has decided that Fernandes will not be leaving Man United this summer under any circumstances.
