Russell Martin, Gary O’Neil: Norwich City next manager update as ‘talks’ open
Norwich City are searching for a new manager to lead them up the Championship table after Liam Manning was sacked.
Liam Manning was appointed by the Canaries’ board in the summer after doing a stellar job in charge of Bristol City and leading them to the play-offs last season.
Norwich had sacked Johannes Hoff Thorup in April after he failed to get them into the top-six, but Manning similarly struggled to win fans and those at the club over at the start of this campaign.
Manning was relieved of his duties on Saturday (8 November) after a 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City left the Carrow Road club 23rd in the Championship with just two wins from 15 games so far.
Football Insider revealed following his sacking that Norwich were set to sound out Russell Martin for a potential return to the club he once played at, but a number of surprise names have now also entered the frame.

Norwich have spoken to Jon Dahl Tomasson and Will Still
According to the Telegraph’s John Percy, via X, Norwich have interviewed former Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson for the vacant role this week, and he is among numerous options that the club are weighing up.
Tomasson was recently sacked as Sweden boss after failing to help them qualify for the 2026 World Cup automatically, with Graham Potter his short-term successor.
BBC Sport journalist Nick Mashiter has also claimed that former Southampton boss Will Still has been spoken to by the Canaries’ board.
Still was sacked by Southampton earlier this month after just five months in charge with the club hovering above the Championship relegation zone.
Gary O’Neil is also an option for Norwich
It is clear that Norwich are targeting managers who are currently out-of-work, with a former player in Gary O’Neil also a potential option, much like Martin.
The BBC have reported that the club’s board also met with O’Neil earlier this week as they step up their recruitment process during the international break.

He played for the club between 2014 and 2016, and was most recently in charge of Wolves before being sacked last December with the club 19th in the Premier League.
They will have to move quickly if they want him in charge, with Football Insider recently revealing that Middlesbrough have held talks with O’Neil as Rob Edwards makes his way to Molineux.
