Russell Martin, Sean Dyche: Leicester make new manager plan after sack decision

Leicester City are assessing their options to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy as pressure continues to grow at the King Power Stadium.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that a number of different options are being considered.

Among those are ex-Everton manager Sean Dyche, who left Goodison Park in January, and former Southampton boss Russell Martin.

However, the board will have to make a decision about the direction they want to take the club and the style of play they want to adopt.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 7 April that Van Nistelrooy will be sacked by Leicester after a disastrous season since his appointment.

A 3-0 defeat to Newcastle means the Foxes have now lost nine consecutive games, during which they have scored just one goal and conceded 23.

Leicester City to sack Van Nistelrooy and appoint replacement

Following his appointment as manager, Brown warned Football Insider that Van Nistelrooy would face “major problems” at Leicester, who are now odds-on for relegation.

Now, the former scout who was instrumental in bringing Van Nistelrooy to Man United in 2001 and has a wealth of experience working closely with top-level managers, insisted that Dyche would be a better-suited option that Martin at this stage.

“Russell Martin is one I’m told they’ve been looking at,” he told Football Insider.

“Personally if it was up to me, he wouldn’t be on my list.

“I don’t know him, but the way he tried to play with Southampton in the Premier League was suicidal and it felt to me it was more about him that it was about the team.

“Now, if that’s the direction Leicester want to go in then good luck to them.

“I don’t think their squad is particularly suited to that style of play, even in the Championship.

“They need a manager who is going to organise them in a way to get the best out of them.

“I hear Sean Dyche is one who has also been mentioned there.

“He would come in, form a solid unit and get the best out of these players.

“But it depends on what Leicester want to do, the style of football they want to play and the direction they want to go in.

“It seems clubs at the moment all want to play pretty passing football even if that isn’t necessarily the best way for them to go.”

PSR update emerges amid sponsorship claim at the King Power

The ongoing turmoil at Leicester City is not just taking place on the pitch, but behind the scenes as well as the club continue to struggle financially.

Now, former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson has told Football Insider that Leicester are facing questions about their gambling sponsors.

Everton are in the same boat, as both clubs has faced profit and sustainability (PSR) issues over the past couple of years, with Everton deducted eight points last season.

Despite being charged by the Premier League, Leicester avoided a points deduction after exploiting a loophole in the rules.
