Ryan Fraser: Steve Bruce claim issued after Newcastle United star’s ‘amazing’ transformation – pundit

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by Ryan Fraser’s transformation at Newcastle United.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the winger’s “amazing” form.

Fraser, 28, was nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award on Thursday (3 March).

This came on the back of a goal and assist across his four outings in February.

Fraser struggled for game time under Steve Bruce but has thrived in his natural position as a left-winger under Eddie Howe.

McAvennie insists Fraser would never have performed to this level under Steve Bruce.

“He’s so hungry because he was left out for so long,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Everyone there will know about where Newcastle are going, they are going to go really far under these new owners.

“If he wants to be a part of that then he needs to be playing at his very best.

“He wants to impress the manager so he stays in his plans. By all accounts, he’s got a new lease of life like a lot of the players there.

“He’s been amazing the last few weeks. He never did this under Steve Bruce and it’s easy to see why.

“He’s gone to West Brom and still not won a game. Hopefully Fraser can keep improving and maybe get himself a few more goals.”

Fraser has made 44 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club in the summer of 2020.

He has scored two goals and provided five assists.
