Ryan Mason ready for permanent job amid ‘massive’ Tottenham claim – expert
Alan Hutton has suggested Ryan Mason is ready for a permanent job in management, but not at Tottenham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Aston Villa defender said Mason is too early in his managerial career for the “massive” job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The 31-year-old took over from caretaker boss Cristian Stellini who was sacked following an embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle.
On 29 April, Football Insider revealed that Mason has emerged as a potential candidate for the permanent job at Spurs if he oversees an improvement in the final weeks of the season.
Mason has already guided the side to a 2-2 draw with Man United and a narrow 4-3 defeat to Liverpool since taking over.
As quoted by the Daily Mail (27 April), when asked about the permanent job at Tottenham, Mason said he “knows” that he is “ready”.
But Hutton insisted he is not the man for the job.
“I can’t see it,” he told Football Insider.
“It is nothing on him, it is just how I see it. It is such a huge job. We are talking about a massive footballing team that goes for top four year in year out.
“I think his comments got taken out of context when he was asked about the job. He said he was ready, I believe he was saying he was ready for a managerial job.

“Of course if Tottenham came in for him and said they want him to be the number one, he is not going to turn that down. I think he was just getting across that he was ready for the opportunity.
“But there is a lot of recruitment needed, there is a lot of players that need to leave and for your first job to take that on, it is absolutely massive. I think it would be very difficult.“
