Ryan Yates reacts to Chris Wood announcement at Nottingham Forest

Ryan Yates has reacted to an announcement from Nottingham Forest on social media concerning Chris Wood.

The Tricky Trees suffered a mid-season collapse that saw them plummet from third in the table to an eventual finish of seventh.

Missing out on Champions League football was seemingly too much for owner Evangelos Marinakis, who stormed the pitch to confront Nuno Espirito Santo after the 2-2 draw with Leicester.

Gary Neville’s post-match comments subsequently led to him being banned from the City Ground for the final game of the season, in an extraordinary display of thin-skinned overreaction from the Greek owner.

Whilst many clubs are fully focused on their upcoming transfer business, Forest will be forced to deal with the fallout from their owner’s inability to get a hold of his emotions.

Despite the messy end, it was a brilliant season for the club, with Matz Sels and Chris Wood two of the standout performers for their side.

Nottingham Forest announce Chris Wood, Matz Sels named in PL Fan Team of the Season

Following the culmination of the season, Forest announced on their Instagram: “Woody and Matz have been named in the Premier League Fan Team of the Season!”

Sels kept a joint-best 13 clean sheets in the league, whilst Wood finished behind only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race, with 20 goals.

Yates showed his appreciation for his teammates and their achievement by liking the post.

Nottingham Forest searching for Chris Wood replacement this summer

Football Insider Verdict

In spite of producing the best season of his career so far, the Tricky Trees appear to be on the search for Wood’s replacement.

Pete O’Rourke exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Forest were planning an ambitious move for Victor Osimhen.

Santo’s side also had a bid rejected for Yoane Wissa in January, and may return for him this summer.

Admittedly, at 33 years old, Wood is no longer a spring chicken. But if this season is anything to go by, we may be seeing the Kiwi heading towards his peak, rather than over the hill.

The New Zealand star’s game is not reliant on breath-taking pace, but instead his experience, tidy finishing, and hold-up play, things that are unlikely to desert him anytime soon.
