Newcastle United haven’t accepted or rejected a single bid for last season’s top goalscorer Dwight Gayle, according to a reliable journalist.

Lee Ryder, the chief reporter for the Chronicle newspaper and multimedia journalist for the Magpies, claims that not only have the club not received any offers for the 26-year-old, but the club don’t want to sell him this summer either.

The journalist also stated that Gayle has “told the club he wishes to stay” which makes a move away from the Tyneside outfit highly unlikely.

Ryder shared the news on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

This report follows an earlier story in the Daily Star which claimed on Tuesday that the north east giants were requesting as much as £18million for the 27-year-old.

A Sky journalist, Keith Downie, also recently tweeted that Gayle could leave before Thursday if Newcastle found his replacement, but those rumours look quashed now that Ryder has stated neither club or player wish to part.

The Englishman moved to St. James’ Park last summer in a deal worth over £10 million, and he proved his worth by scoring 23 goals in 32 Championship games for the Magpies during his debut season.

Gale looks as though he’s staying put at Newcastle for another season, which will please fans as he was a huge driving force behind their promotion to the Premier League. Although the forward has only featured in the two defeats against Tottenham and Huddersfield, knowing that the club want to keep him will be a huge confidence boost and will undoubtably bring out more of a fighting performance from the goalscorer. Newcastle must focus on remaining in the top flight, and to do so the club will need to ensure the players that are at the club want to be there so they can give the best performance possible throughout the campaign.

In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies are willing to meet the £18.5million valuation of this international playmaker.
