'Always something that goes wrong' – Leeds fans 'gutted' after latest club announcement
Samu Saiz has issued an apology after his six-match ban for spitting in the FA Cup game v Newport on Sunday, but fans are still not happy.
Saiz has been one of the best players for Leeds this season and now faces an extended stay on the sidelines after being found guilty of the offence after the shock defeat v Newport.
The full statement which was released by Saiz and Leeds, saw the player take full responsibility for his actions, which he admitted was “inexcusable”.
“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologise to the players, staff and supporters of Leeds United for my behaviour in yesterday’s game at Newport County AFC.
“My actions are inexcusable, I give my word to all those connected to Leeds United Football Club that I will learn from this situation and never repeat it.”
The 26-year-old, who arrived from Huesca in the summer has made 25 appearances for Leeds, scoring nine goals and adding five assists.
However, Leeds will now have to do without him for six crucial Championship games which will see him out until the end of February.
And fans know that will be a massive loss to their club at a time when they need all their players fit.
Here is a selection of their tweets to the news of his six-match ban and apology:
The apology means absolutely nothing in the long term if his absence ultimately costs us a top-6 finish.. No doubt the apology was conducted/written up by the PR department also.. Not Saiz himself.

I imagine saiz will receive a fine. His apology seems genuine also. Needs to come bk better for the run in.

Most of that was to do with him being shit. Saiz is certainly not. Plus you don’t get rid of a player like Saiz unless he does something he can never return from. This is his warning, he has time to think about his actions and then he needs to never do it again.

Saiz has let the club down massively. Gutted he will miss 6 games. #lufc

Saiz situation done and dusted now, for me. He’s apologised, accepted his ban and will be fined by the club, you’d imagine.

This is a problem when he is back(saiz),players will target him to try and get a reaction out of him. #lufc

Good to see saiz apologise for spitting, no place for it, he's banned for 6 games which is a huge loss but draw a line under it and move on, he didn't kill anyone, #lufc saiz

I've only 1 thing to say now saiz is banned for next 6 games, STEP UP PABLO HERNANDEZ #lufc
— Sambo (@wassell51) January 8, 2018
least saiz will be like a new signing when he returns lol
— Phil Robertson (@PhilbergLUFC) January 8, 2018
Saiz actions yesterday – moronic. But 6 games? For spitting on someone. Commit a career threatening tackle and get a 3 game ban. I’m more angry at the stupidity and loss of him from the squad than the action in all honesty #LUFC

It's just a Leeds thing that saiz misses some of the most important games of the season. Always something that goes wrong
