Sandro Tonali: Odds slashed on Newcastle star joining Manchester United
Sandro Tonali has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Italy international has been a mainstay in the Newcastle starting XI throughout the season, and continues to impress despite the club’s dip in form.
As a result, with the Magpies being unlikely to qualify for European football this season, Tonali has been linked away.
Man United have been one club in the race for his signature, and one bookmaker now believes this has a 10/3 chance of happening, with a major betting website on 27 March confirming that these odds have been slashed.
Below, Football Insider has explored Man United’s pursuit of Tonali, and what could happen in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail on 26 March, Tonali has not emerged as their top target in their hunt for a midfielder.
The Italy international was part of a three-man shortlist going into the summer transfer window alongside Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.
| Sandro Tonali’s Premier League stats this season | Per 90 minutes |
| Assists | 0.09 |
| Chances created | 1.14 |
| Successful dribbles | 0.75 |
| Recoveries | 5.41 |
| Fouls won | 1.54 |
Bruno Fernandes has also reportedly expressed his support for signing Tonali, with a formal approach expected at the conclusion of the current campaign.
However, Newcastle are unlikely to give up their star man without a fight, with Tonali contracted for another three years, while also having the option of another year.
Therefore, if the Magpies chose to sell, they would likely get a substantial fee for the 25-year-old.
Who else is linked with Tonali?
Ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Champions League football could be deciding factor on whether Tonali joins Man United.
The Red Devils are currently in a strong position to qualify for Europe’s most prestigious competition as they sit third in the Premier League table.
However, if they do collapse, Tonali could be picked up by numerous other clubs.

Juventus and Arsenal are both at 4/1 odds to pick up the midfielder in the summer, while Liverpool are 11/2.
Nevertheless, a stay at Newcastle for the 2026-27 campaign is still seen as the most likely scenario at 2/5 as they will look to quickly bounce back and put this dire season behind them.
