Scott Brown names Celtic teammate as first player on the team sheet

By Will Butcher

Scott Brown believes Celtic midfield partner Stuart Armstrong is one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers’ team sheet.

Speaking to the Evening Times, Brown lauded his central-midfield partner after Armstrong worked his way into the Hoops’ starting eleven in place of Israel international Nir Bitton.

“He’s one of the first names on the team sheet and he’s scoring goals every week,” Brown said. “It’s great for us having him and Tom Rogic pushing on from midfield and scoring goals.

“I get to do all their dirty work which is lovely. I’ve been in trouble too so he can bail me out, it’s a good sidekick to have.”

Armstrong, 24, has taken his chance to partner Brown with aplomb, after coming in to replace Bitton who has struggled for form this season.

Four goals in 10 league games this season, as well as adding the same amount in assists has seen the former Dundee United midfielder star in Rodgers’ side.

The box-to-box midfielder was on hand to score on Saturday, as he slid home a well-timed effort to level the scores at 3-3 before Australia international Rogic scored a last-gasp winner.

Former Dundee United midfielder Armstrong is expected to feature for the Hoops on Tuesday night alongside Brown, as Celtic go up against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Although Rodgers’ side have already been knocked out of the competition, they will be hoping they can prove to fans that they have learned from their experience in Group C alongside City, Barcelona and Borussia Monchengladbach.
