Scottish Premiership title race: Three reasons why Rangers could win the trophy after latest Hearts and Celtic news
The Scottish Premiership title race is set to heat up yet again with the international break now coming to an end.
Rangers are aiming to catch Heart of Midlothian at the summit, with Celtic still not out of the race in third.
If delivered, it would be an unlikely first title for the Gers since 2021, after seemingly being ruled out of the race back in October after Russell Martin’s awful reign.
Yet, with seven games to go, Rangers are only three points behind and have a serious chance of tasting silverware at the end of the season.
Below, Football Insider has examined three reasons why Rangers could win the title this season.

Since Rohl’s arrival, while he has had plenty of criticism, he has done an excellent job of getting Rangers in a position to win the title.
When he was appointed, the club were 11 points off Hearts, and nine off Celtic. Now, they are only three behind the Jambos and are even in front of their Old Firm rivals.
| Danny Rohl’s Rangers record | |
| Games managed | 33 |
| Wins | 19 |
| Draws | 8 |
| Losses | 6 |
| Win percentage | 57.58% |
As a result, Rangers have picked up the most points in the division since Rohl’s appointment by some distance, and are by far the most in-form side in the Scottish Premiership.
Therefore, if the current trend continues, there is every chance they will be sat at the summit come the end of game week 38.
Danny Rohl has already proven he can hold Celtic and beat Hearts
Another advantage Rangers have is that they have already proven they can overcome their title rivals.
Celtic have only beaten Rohl’s side in either extra time or penalties. Therefore in a 90-minute match, they should be able to pick up at least a point.
On top of this, in their last meeting with Hearts, they comfortably won 4-2, and a repeat of this post-split would see them go top as it stands.
As a result, this will likely give Rangers a psychological edge as well, with their opponents knowing that a repeat of their recent results may not be enough to secure the title.
Rangers have big-game players
Ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider that Rangers took a gamble by keeping Youssef Chermiti in January, and this could help deliver a title by the end of the season.
Post-split, when they will be facing some of the toughest sides, clubs need their stars to step up, and many times this season, this has happened with the Gers.
Youssef Chermiti is the most obvious example, with the striker netting a hat-trick against Hearts, and four goals against Celtic in his last two league meetings.
If the attacker can repeat this feat, it would surely win the Gers more points at the most critical point in the season.
As a result, it would likely ensure the Scottish Premiership title is theirs.
