Scottish pundit backs Celtic to sign £8m star to topple Rangers after £33m transfer reveal
Alan Hutton has backed Celtic to spend £8million on one player during the winter window in a bid to topple Rangers this season.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Bhoys would not be afraid of splashing out on a game-changing signing in January.
As detailed by Football Insider’s financial expert Dr Dan Plumley last Friday, Celtic could theoretically spend £32.5million in January and remain within financial fair play limits.
At the club’s AGM (17th November), manager Ange Postecoglou stated “if the right person exists to bring in, we’ll do it.”
Hutton suggested the Hoops could splash out on one signing to try beat Rangers to top spot.
“I think they’ll try and be smart,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I don’t think they’ll go big, I don’t think Celtic or Rangers will ever spend £30million in a transfer window.
“If there’s some sort of player that they’re really interested in and could really make a difference in the squad and he costs £8-9million, then that could be a possibility if the deal can be done.
“As I said, I think they’ll go clever. If there’s a deal to be had, they’ll go and do it. I don’t think they’ll go and spend a lot of money.
“It is a big season for both clubs, they’ll be desperate to get into the Champions League. That is a difference-maker. The money from that will be the difference between the two teams moving forward.”
Celtic’s current record signing is Odsonne Edouard, who joined for a reported £9million in 2018.
The Hoops signed Carl Starfelt, Liel Abada, James McCarthy, Josip Juranovic Kyogo Furuhashi and Georgios Giakoumakis permanently this summer.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota also joined on loan.
