Sean Dyche backed to ‘immediately’ reverse one Ange Postecoglou mistake at Nottingham Forest

Sean Dyche was named as the next Nottingham Forest manager on 21 October as he officially stepped in to replace Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was sacked by Nottingham Forest following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground, forcing them to hire a third permanent manager of the season.

The likes of Marco Silva and Roberto Mancini were heavily linked with the position, but Dyche has now emerged as the clear front-runner, with talks already being held.

Forest have tumbled down the league table and are now in 18th place, with the looming threat of dropping further if West Ham get a result against Brentford.

There is hope that Dyche will be the man to turn around their recent fortunes, which has seen the Tricky Trees win just once in eight league games so far.

Sean Dyche backed to get the best out of Nottingham Forest

In their attempts to replace Postecoglou, Dyche’s name has been a constant presence, as he quickly became the front-runner for the role.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the former Everton boss was the standout candidate despite Forest considering other options.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Dyche is the perfect replacement for Postecoglou as he will help reverse the defensive issues they have suffered lately.

Nottingham Forest have got to get back to basics,” he told Football Insider.

“The basics of their success last season were defending deep, staying strong at the back, and hitting teams quickly on the counter.

“Under Postecoglou, we haven’t seen any of that, they’ve been trying to outscore teams and leaving themselves wide open at the back.

“Dychey will go on there, wipe the slate clean, and immediately make them more resilient.

“He’ll start with the basics, the first port of call is to stop conceding so many goals, because you can’t win games if you’re shipping goals every week.

“He showed during his time at Everton he can do that, even if it’s not the prettiest, what Forest need right now is results and that’s what he will give them.”

Dyche previously turned down the Rangers job as he believed it wasn’t the right opportunity to step back into management, but has been tempted by Forest.

Dyche to bring defensive stability to Nottingham Forest

Having a solid defensive base and attacking quickly on the counter were hallmarks of Forest’s success last season which helped them qualify for European football.

However, under Postecoglou‘s leadership, those elements of their game disappeared as they conceded 18 goals across his eight games in charge and failed to keep a clean sheet.

Even going back prior to the Australian boss’ appointment, Forest have failed to keep a clean sheet since April, with their previous resolute structure fading.

Dyche has been backed to bring back the style of play which earned Forest high praise last season, with a more pragmatic approach likely to steer them in the right direction.

Hiring him would be seen by many as a confession that the club got Postecoglou’s appointment wrong, and are now keen to revert to their previous stance.
