Sean Dyche sack: Sky pundit tears into Everton fans after latest

Everton supporters should “give it a rest” when it comes to calling for Sean Dyche to be sacked, Michael Dawson has said.

The Toffees again find themselves at the wrong end of the Premier League table this season, and some fans have lost patience with 53-year-old in charge at Goodison Park.

Indeed, an imminent takeover of the club by The Friedkin Group has only added to the questions around his future.

But after a 0-0 draw with Arsenal on Saturday (14 December), Everton have no lost just two of their last 11 Premier League games.

As a result, Dawson has backed Dyche to keep his role in the Toffees dugout. Speaking on Sky Sports (5:31pm), the former England international said after the point at the Emirates: “Defend the edge of your box, which I think they like doing, Everton.

“That is what they’re all about, and that’s a Sean Dyche team, and I’ve always said when you’ve got him in charge…

“I saw two weeks ago ‘Dyche… out’ and I’m like, give it a rest. He’ll get you results and he’ll get you out of trouble. What are you expecting from this Everton team?

“They’re great in determination, the fight that they show. They started off disastrously, conceding goals, but they’ve all got these kinds of performances in them.”

Sean Dyche does enough for chance under new Everton owners?

Football Insider Opinion

While a change in ownership can often bring about a change in other areas of the club, it would feel very harsh for Dyche to lose his job straight off as things stand.

He is clearly someone who knows how to keep clubs in the Premier League in difficult circumstances, having done so on multiple occasions with both Burnley and Everton.

As a result, with the Toffees once again in the bottom half of the standings, it makes sense to keep around Dyche when they know he can keep them out of genuine trouble.

Of course, making an alteration is always a gamble anyway, given there is never a guarantee that a replacement manager will improve things at the club.

With this draw against Arsenal, he has once again shown that he can results for Everton even against the very top clubs in the division, and a solid point against a side with title ambitions in what is likely to be the last game under Farhad Moshiri was well time from his perspective.

Results such as that certainly ought to keep them safe, and it is hard to imagine many supporters calling for him to go if they continue in that manner.

At the same time he hardly looks like the man to take Everton to new heights under Freidkin ownership, and much of the Arsenal result might be down to baffling choices from Mikel Arteta, but for now Dyche remains.

In other news, Everton look as though they could miss out on the signing of one winger in the January transfer window.
