Rangers fans would love to see the back of Martyn Waghorn even though the powerful striker found the back of the net on Wednesday night.

Pedro Caixinha’s side suffered a 2-1 loss to Aberdeen at Ibrox, with Graeme Shinnie and Ryan Christie finding the back of the net for the Dons.

Former Leicester striker Waghorn was brought on at half-time in the Scottish Premiership fixture, and latched on to a Josh Windass pass to chip Joe Lewis and give the Gers hope.

The 27-year-old now has 16 goals in 40 league and cup appearances this season for the 54-time Scottish champions, but only seven in the top flight of Scottish football.

Rangers fans have urged their club to sell Waghorn despite his impressive cameo role against Derek McInnes’s side – with some claiming he is lacking quality and others ridiculing the big striker.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Rangers’ number 33’s form is a far cry from last season’s exploits that saw him score 28 times in just 36 games, as well as laying on eight assists.

With a contract in Glasgow for another 12 months, Caixinha could be tempted to cash in now instead of losing him on a free at the end of his current deal.
