Senior duo over-hyped: Three things we learned from Leeds defeat against Brentford
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Football Insider analyses the three talking point from Leeds’ 2-0 defeat at Brentford on Tuesday night in the Championship.
Lack of clean sheets
The last time Leeds secured a clean sheet on their travels was against Wolves in October, therefore, it is no surprise to see them suffer a defeat at Brentford on Tuesday night. The senior duo of Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley have received high praise for their performances in defence this term. However, they have been slightly over-hyped given the fact that they have not been able to produce the goods on the road, on a consistent basis, which could now cost them a top six place. The recent back-to-back defeats have hurt them.
Home form now crucial
It’s going to be a fight till the end for Garry Monk and his side as they aim to secure that all important play-off place. They take on promotion hopefuls Preston North End on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road, a must-win fixture. The Whites clearly cannot show consistency away from home, therefore, winning all their remaining matches could cement that valuable top six spot even with their away troubles.

Monk has done a stellar job
Regardless of how the season pans out for the Yorkshire giants, Monk has done a stellar job at the club since his arrival last summer. Even if Leeds miss out on promotion or even a top six finish, supporters should realise the heights Monk has taken the club in the short time he has been at the club. The former Premier League manager will need more time to re-build the club which has been suffering in the lower divisions for the past 13 years.
