Darren Bent has admitted he was gutted to hear Adam Forshaw is still not back in training at Leeds United.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, suggested there was an “underlying problem” with the midfielder after his long-term absence.
As quoted by Leeds Live, Marcelo Bielsa revealed the 29-year-old was still yet to take part in any football training sessions as he works his way back from a hip injury.
The former Middlesbrough man has not played for Leeds since September 2019 and was confirmed to have suffered a setback in his recovery process back in September.
Bent admitted he had forgotten Forshaw was still at Elland Road and that it was “sad” to see him struggling to get back to playing.
Bent told Football Insider: “I mean that’s difficult, that’s sad for a fellow professional that he can’t seem to figure out how to get himself back out on the training pitch.
“I don’t like to hear that because that means that there’s an underlying issue. I’ve played with players, when I was playing, that had to change their car because there was something about the way the car was shaped, the seat was shaped, they had a back injury or something and they have to change their car.
“I mean, listen, it sounds stupid but all these little details, they, unfortunately, go against the player sometimes so at times it can be difficult.
“You just wish him all the best and hope he comes back sooner rather than later. It’s difficult because I even forgot that he was there so it’s difficult for him.”
Forshaw has made a total of 52 appearances for Leeds since joining from Middlesbrough in January 2018.
He is the third-most experienced player in the Whites’ squad in terms of Premier League appearances, behind Pablo Hernandez and Patrick Bamford.
