Shearer delivers damning verdict on flashpoint in Newcastle draw v Crystal Palace

Newcastle United and Premier League legend Alan Shearer has said that the penalty conceded by the Magpies in the draw against Crystal Palace should be given ten times a game if the officials are going to stamp down on it.
Rafael Benitez’s men conceded the lead in the 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park as a result of Luka Milovejic’s second half penalty, which was given after the linesman flagged for a shirt pull on Christian Benteke by Newcastle centre back Ciaran Clark.
The visitors had taken the lead in the opening 45 minutes through Mohamed Diame’s second goal of the season, the 30-year-old ghosting to the back post and poking home unmarked after a corner had bounced through a crowded penalty box.
Insisting that the point gained is a good one for his former side, Shearer delivered a damning verdict on the officiating, stating that there should be so many more fouls given if they were consistent in their decision making.
He wrote on his personal Twitter account: “A good point in the end. If that’s a penalty then there should be ten penalties a game!”

The point gained at Selhurst Park leaves Newcastle sitting precariously close to the drop zone in 16th, with just one point and two places separating them from Stoke City in 18th.
Their next match sees them play host to Manchester United, having been thrashed 4-1 by the Red Devils in the reverse fixture.
In other Newcastle United news, fans were left fuming at the display of one stalwart in the Crystal Palace draw.
