Alan Shearer believes that Newcastle will be confident ahead of their weekend clash against Swansea, but has claimed he wouldn’t be surprised if Tammy Abraham got on the scoresheet.

The Magpies travel to the Liberty Stadium on Sunday for a Premier League match and will be looking for a positive result as domestic football resumes.

Rafael Benitez’s side won 3-0 against West Ham before the international break and that eased the pressure on the manager at St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, Swansea beat Crystal Palace 2-0 and attacking powerhouse Abraham chalked his first league goal of the season.

The 19-year-old is on loan at the Swans from Chelsea and the physical striker is looking to prove he can be a success in the top flight.

He managed a remarkable 26 goals across all competitions last season during a loan with Bristol City and is now testing himself in the Premier League.

Shearer has stated he could see the forward scoring at the weekend as Newcastle were linked with a move for him in the summer, but lost out to league rivals Swansea.

“They [Newcastle] should go into it full of confidence against a Swansea team that had a good result at Crystal Palace,” Shearer said, as quoted by Coral’s official Twitter account. “Tammy Abraham scoring, of course Newcastle were linked with him, wanted him, so that wouldn’t surprise me if he was on the scoresheet against them.

“But this is a game I think Newcastle can be looking to get something out of, if they can get a point at Swansea then I think it would be a decent result.”

Newcastle are hopeful of avoiding a relegation battle this season and will need to beat the teams around them to do so.

They lost their first away match of the season against Huddersfield and will be looking for a much better display against Swansea.
