Shearer: This Manchester United player was brilliant against Tottenham (not Mkhitaryan)
By Harvey Byrne
Alan Shearer has hailed Manchester United defender Phil Jones as “brilliant” after his display against Tottenham on Sunday.
The Old Trafford giants ran out 1-0 winners on their own turf with a first half goal from Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenia international received most of the plaudits for his forward runs, which caused massive problems to the Spurs back four.
However, Match of the Day pundit Shearer agreed with Mirror journalist Andy Dunn on his personal Twitter account hailing the performance of the English centre-back.
At OT, Mkhitaryan rightly getting plaudits but, on a weekend of poor defending, Phil Jones was excellent. Does not get enough credit #mufc

He helped keep a clean sheet alongside Marcus Rojo in the back four against a Tottenham side which contained free-scoring Harry Kane upfront.
His performance helped Manchester United to three points, which has moved them three points closer to Manchester City in fourth after the defeat to Leicester on Saturday.
However, Jose Mourinho’s side still remains six points from the Champions League places and three points behind Spurs in fifth.
Both Manchester United and Tottenham will be seeking a place in the top four this season, but with the reemergence of Liverpool and Chelsea this season their task has been made a lot tougher.
The north London outfit will take on 19th placed Hull next on Wednesday, while United will take on Crystal Palace on the same day, who are sat in 15th.
