Kenny: Cairney would be 'massive' Sheffield United signing amid reported update
Tom Cairney would be a “massive signing” for Sheffield United if Slavisa Jokanovic can lure his former player to Bramall Lane.
That is according to ex-Blades goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after TEAMtalk reported that the midfielder is on newly-appointed Jokanvoic’s wanted list.
The pair worked together at Craven Cottage between 2015 and 2018, winning promotion in the manager’s penultimate season at the helm.
Jokanovic was appointed United boss last Thursday and is believed to be keen on bringing Cairney, 30, with him in his new role.
TEAMtalk report that Fulham will demand around £10million for their skipper, whose contract expires in 2024.
Kenny is excited at the prospect of Cairney becoming a Blade, claiming that he would be a “massive signing” for the recently-relegated club.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Neil Warnock took me everywhere he went.
“So if he [Jokanovic] can use his relationship with him to try and bring Cairney in, brilliant.
“Listen, Tom Cairney is an unbelievable player. Whether Sheffield United can persuade him to go, who knows?
“I’d be surprised if there isn’t some other Premier League clubs after him. So I imagine there would be a fair bit of competition.
“But if they could get him, he’d be a massive signing for them, no doubt.”
Cairney made just 10 appearances for the Cottagers in an injury-ravaged 2020-21 Premier League campaign.
Both Fulham and United were relegated at the end of the season.
In other news, Sheffield United star Oli McBurnie tipped to be “great Rangers signing” after big update.
